The Watchmen Sleep

The Watchmen sleep with their souls safe from the grasp of Thuulak.  They are destined for rebirth, but the form has not yet peeled itself from the inky blackness of the creative void.

Here, in rest but not death the Watchmen will dream of other times...

Which brings us to the next (NEXT?) question?  What shall we do with the time between now and when the Watchmen awake?

I need votes.

The Angel of Death

After successfully finding the Light of Dol Arrah, battling numerous wicked beasts and rising to level six, the party was attacked by a young green dragon during its adventure this past weekend.

While the dragon appeared to succumb to its wounds as well, the party was all killed.

So while the Grim Reaper visits the Watchmen, no one knows what will be NEXT...

Adventurer's Log 6/29/12 - The Light of Dol Arrah

At the base of the Lost Peaks the party set out to continue its search for a way to remove the Mark of Thuulak, and get to Sigil to do so.  The party makeup has changed.  Feanor and Elros, decided to pursue their own means of removing the mark and left.  However, the party was joined by an old friend Colston, A Paladin of the Raven Queen, and a new friend betrothed in our service from Lamsa, Kirroc Stonecrusher, a goliath.

Upon setting out on the journey the party quickly found themselves mired in a new mystery.  A dying elf maiden was seen, and when the party moved to aid her, they were attacked by direwolves and a hobgoblin.  While the party was able to kill the enemies, the elf died.  Leaving only the clue of a magical shield, marked with symbol of the God Dol Arrah.  Soon after, the party was accosted by a bird, yes a bird.

The bird spoke....

Telling the party that the area was infested with blood hounds and other vile servants to the Evil God Orcus.  Telling them the dead elf was Oolastina Joysword, a priestess of Dol Arrah.  And finally telling the party that they must travel to the temple of Dol Arrah and Release the "Light of Dol Arrah."

The party decided to endeavor on this quest, as no doors to Sigil seemed to be opening up before them.

They found a map on Oolastina, which showed the way to the Temple.  In following the map they came upon a river, with a beautiful Elf Maiden there.  She turned out to be a evil River Hag, and the party slew her with haste, then they ate her liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti.

They continued along the map to a small house, which initially seemed hostile, but actually held several followers of Dol Arrah.  They were trying to stay safe and away from the hounds of Orcus.  They did impart information to the party that the "Light of Dol Arrah" is actually a relic, that has been stolen.  The party rested there for a night, and set out again on the road to the temple to capture this magical relic...

Quickly they encountered an Owlbear, who gave the party little problems and was slain.  He was then roasted with beets, turnips and Montreal Steak Seasoning.

Out of Game Notes - This session was guest DM'ed by Phil, our esteemed DM Matt played Colston and Kirroc.  The party found a total of 50 GP and was awared 725 XP.  Character XP totals should be 6625, still at level 5.

Adventurer's Log - 6/1/2012

The Watchmen of Waterdeep found themselves still on the Stone Bridge, attempting to cross to get to the lost peaks.  They eventually succeeded, although they had to disable a large clay construct and a mechanical water trap that threaten to drown them all, in water or blood, depending on the plane.  The final section of the bridge was just that, a bridge and the party crossed with no ill effects.
Once across they stood looking at a trail that headed up the lost peaks.  The feeling of magic was heavy in the air.  They met with a group of Shard-Kai, followers of the Raven Queen.  They learned that Lamsa created the bridge and the other plane was the Shadowfell.  The Shard-Kai were also looking for Lamsa, but for other reasons, and later were slain by Lamsa.  The party learned, however, that Lamsa is a 2000 year old Gold Dragon, who bears the mark of Thulaak.  They found Lamsa at the top of the mountain, beyond an archway marked with magic symbols to prevent scrying.  Lamsa teaches the party that the mark allows Thulaak to see their every move and be prepared.  In fact, Thulaak's army is already assembled outside, as they saw the party movement up the lost peaks.  The only way is to remove the mark.  Lamsa gives the party a scroll and instructs them to take the scroll to Sigil and find Weiss Albom to learn how to remove the mark.  The party finally learns that Thulaak exists in the same space of the mark, and essentially is the mark.
So the party fills their bag of holding with gold and is also granted the help of a Goliath, a new adventurer!

Out of Game Note - The party was granted 1900 XP for the session.

Jel-Vered's Memory of a Past Life

I seemed to have been forced from my meditative state after our last encounter on the Stone Bridge, while the rest of the party slept.  I "awoke" in a dark place, with the sounds of battle everywhere.  Jel Vered, I was not, rather I was Jel Vellic, a past incarnation of my Deva heritage.  Jel Vellic being a strong, experienced warrior, yet oddly bearing the Mark of Thuulak.  I, as Jel Vellic, led an army, seeking to gain entrance to a city.  I felt a strong compulsion to fight this battle, as Jel Vellic, and did so.  The enemy was vanquished, and I gained entrance to this city through a large storm drain.

After entering the city, I was again Jel Vered.  The city was bleak and foggy, even the people seemed as fog or ghosts.  I came upon a bench, where a small boy was.  He was holding a stick and a crystal and was crying.  I spoke to the boy and determined he was looking for his mother.  We searched together and found his mother in a shop, she was being beaten.  We entered the shop and the attackers dispersed, but we found the mother to be dead.  The boy begged that we take her to a temple to be resurrected.  So I followed the boy to a temple, or so I thought, it was more of a large tower in the center of the city.

As I approached, the corpse I held, turned to simply bones.

When I entered the tower I found the boy in a garden, I no longer held the bones, they were now quite alive and fleshed and with the boy.  In the tower was an old man.  He seemed familiar.  The boy gave him the stick and the crystal, of which he made them into a wand.

With the wand the old man set fire to everything in the town, save the tower, reducing all to waste.  He then entered the tower.  I followed him into the tower, which simply held a large spiral staircase.  The walls of the tower were mirrored.  In those mirrors I saw reflections, reflections of all my past lives.

When I reached the top of the tower, a room with a large compass etched in the floor, I found the old man, who I now realized was me in a former life, Jel Vellic.  He was angry.  He had destroyed the town in hopes of finding the answer of removing the Mark of Thuulak in the basement of the tower, however the tower has no basement.  He told me I was in the Citadel of Thay and told me to look to the east.

That is when I saw it.  A Gold Dragon, flying towards us.

Out of Game Note - the party has been awarded 250 XP each for being made aware of Jel-Vered's memory.  Each party member should be 4th level with a total XP of 4,000.

Dreams of Faenor

Sinjin stands before you in a dream.  His form is mist and shadow, his words are whispers of air and fog.  You feel wet in the water on your limbs as the fog condenses around you, thicker than natural.  It feels almost like oil, just as thick and almost as clinging.  You gasp for breathe as Sinjin's words take shape.

"Even now you doubt your quest Faenor.  You've seen HIS power," he hisses.

Then the mist lifts, you catch your breathe and fall into inky blackness...

The Last Entry of Lamsa, Sage of Elder Things and Guardian of the Lost Peaks

The army settled at the base of the mountain, before me and the seekers.  Spread out as far in either direction as could be seen.  The Mouth and Hands of Thuulak stood at the front of the throng of men, elves, dwarves and other free creatures ready to fight for their subjugation.  The masses wear the fury only lies can conjure as they begin their ascent.  The seekers can not help me - nor can those loyal to me - for this is my fight, centuries in the making and it is destined to go but one way.

Adventurer's Log - 4/27/2012

The party passed through the woods and came upon the Stone Bridge, around midday.  The bridge itself has not been in use in sometime.  It was once used by Dwarves to transport goods, in their transactions with the Elves.  It is 1/4 mile long over a 100' + gorge.  It is 15' wide.  The bridge is made of stone and appears stable enough to cross.  Beyond the bridge is rocky terrain leading to a mountain.
At regular intervals the stone work on the bridge changes, as if altered after construction.  There are numerous features such as statues and vines.
The party decides to cross the bridge.  Elros leads the way, looking for traps and notices a pressure plate which he disables.  Suddenly an orb of white light appears.  The party is aware that the orb is some type of magical effect, planar in nature.
Bravely, Jel-Vered passes through the orb and immediately vanishes.  He reappears in what appears to be another plane, on a similar looking bridge.  Everything is a red haze, and a feeling of grief and darkness persists.  There are ghost like figures in the darkness.  Jel-Vered passes back through the orb and returns to his original location on the bridge, however the ghosts follow.
The party continues over the bridge and must fight its way through several traps, monsters and undead from the unknown plane.  The orb is used several times by party members to transport back and forth.  One trap consists of a section of bridge covered with vines.  The vines grab party members and move them towards the edge of the bridge, threatening to push them off.  There is, however, a pedestal further up the bridge with a round stone button.  Finwe cast magic missile, effectively pressing the button and disabling the vine trap.  In the final encounter of the adventuring day the party comes to a section of the bridge and must face a construct, ghosts, spectres, devils and a beholder!  The party succeeds, but is very tired and is forced to pitch camp right there on the bridge.

In service to Dol-Arrah - Jel-Vered Kantas

Out of game note - the adventurers were awarded the balance of the XP needed to achieve Level 4.

Continued from Sermon 16

"It was upon life Thuulak preyed, but not just for destruction, for life without meaning held no power for the dark beast.  It was the control of life Thuulak sought to obtain for by directing and influencing everything in reality it would cease to be and instead would become his."

Sinjin, his Friends, and the Nasty Frogs

The brave party continued their current quest to find the Sage Lansa.  En route to the lost peaks the party encountered Beh-ean, a Shaman, who proved to instrumental later in the day's combat for healing.  While traveling the party encountered Sinjin, his skeletal archers and several storm shards.  The party recalled meeting Sinjin before in the prisons of Waterdeep.  Sinjin and his band refused to surrender and attacked the party.  The party succeeded, after several members were near death, to defeat Sinjin and his thugs.  From Sinjin, the party learned:

  • The Mark of Thuulak has created a blight on the wildlife in the area.
  • The Mark has a similar effect of a spell scar from the spell plague.
  • Lansa is known as the Prophet of the spire.
  • Disciples of Thuulak find their way to Lansa.
  • To find Lansa one must traverse the Hated Woods, cross the Stone Bridge and climb the mountain.
  • It is important not to offend Lansa.
A piece of Eternal Chalk was found.  When the party finally killed Sinjin, a black smoke enveloped him and took his body.

The party rested and healed, then continued the quest to Lansa.  In doing so, they encountered a muddy bogg filled with Bullywogs, specifically a Mud Lord, some Muckers and some Twitchers.  The party defeated them, however, not without some difficulty.

The party then encountered a not-so-friendly Elf band. The party used the coin given to them by Yinkin to communicate with him.  He was able to speak to the Elf leader, Legolas, and secured the party safe passage (at least from the Elves) through the Hated Woods.

--In Service to Dol Arrah - Jel-Vered Kantas

ps - Feanor, can you take the lead in attacking the biggest threats?  I tire of death and resurrection.

Out of game note - At the end of the session, each party member was awarded 150 GP and promoted to Level 4.

Sermon 16

And for the form Thuulak chose the Abyss, black and shapeless, and function followed form so that he hungered for the world to fall into blackness where only he could know the way of things.

The Search for Lansa

The blog starts as of 3/31/12 - The current adventuring party is made up of:

Jel-Vered Kantas - an avenger
Finwe - A wizard
Elros - A rogue
Feanor - A fighter
  • The adventuring party recovered from the "hole" incident after slaying the Tiefling

  • From there, we started back towards the twin peaks, in search of the sage Lansa
  • While travelling through the golden fields, en route to the lost peaks, we encountered Yinkin and his band of Gnome traders
  • The party was able to purchase much needed equipment fro Yinkin
  • Yinkin's wizard was able to tell the party that the two infernal scrolls found on the Tiefling were rituals - Linked Portal and Traveler's Feast
  • The wizard also stated that it was believed that the mark of Thulak causes a scry effect on those marked
  • The party also learned that Lansa was - possibly a demon, an ancient copper dragon, may take many forms and has knowledge of the time before the gods.
  • The party then engaged in a few rounds of the Gnomish card game Prison.
  • During the game, both Jel-Vered and Finwe got very drunk, however the party walked away with most of the winnings, including 1000 GP (250 each) a potion of spirit, an obsidian horse, 10 potions of healing and a coin that allows us to communicate with Yinkin - Finwe put all of this into the bag of holding he purchased earlier.
  • The entire camp was then besieged by a Troll and his minions, all of which were eventually slayed.
  • The evening ended in that each member of the party was granted XPof 495, which should bring everyone's XP total to 3130.
